¶3 John Wesley Mason (from ¶2) was born 4 October 1838 in Campbell County VA, died on 2 May 1897 at Staunton VA, and was buried in Lynchburg VA. On 15 Feb 1871 in Lynchburg VA, he married (1st) Annie America Phelps (born about 1851). He married (2nd) on 2 Nov 1887 Willie Burgess Witt.

All of the children from his first marriage left home at an early age. Lucinda Frances made her home in Naruna, Virginia. Orieanna moved to California. Eugene Emmett made his home in Atlanta, Georgia. Oscar Lee and Walter Wesley lived in Campbell County and Lynchburg, Virginia.

There is a great deal of information in the National Archives indicating that John Wesley Mason served in the CSA army throughout the Civil War. In April 1865 his unit was disbanded and paroled at the present day Miller Park, Lynchburg VA. There is a monument erected there commemorating this event. After the War he went back to work as a carpenter, which had been his trade before the War. He was injured while working on what was called Six Mile Bridge which use to be across the James River at Lynchburg. A piece of wood fell from the bridge and struck him on the head severely injuring him. He was sent to a hospital in Staunton, VA, where he died from his injury.

¶6 Orieanna Mason (from ¶3) was born 23 June 1873 and died 23 Apr 1953. On 24 Jan 1912 she married Arthur Washington Applewhite. They lived in Beverly Hills, CA.

¶7 Eugene Emmett Mason (from ¶3) was born 14 May 1875 and died in April 1938. In 1898 he married Catherine Stanfield. He moved to Atlanta GA at an early age. Here he met and married Catherine and they made their home. In The Good Old Days, Carl Mason wrote "I went to Uncle Emmett's funeral. He was a tin smith by trade. He had really nice children, a good home and everyone spoke highly of him".

¶8 Oscar Lee Mason (from ¶3) was born 29 Aug 1876 and died 23 Nov 1952. He married Maude Ardelia Roberts. He lived in and around Campbell Co VA

¶10 Warner Wesley Mason (from ¶9) was born 29 December 1902 and died 14 Jan 1976. On 22 Dec 1922 he married Leona Inez Sowell. The children of Warner and Leona and the children of Walter Terrell Sowell and Mamie were double first cousins, with brothers marrying sisters.

¶11 Mamie Wilmouth Mason (from ¶9) was born 18 November 1904 in Ohio and died 27 April 1935 in Cleveland OH. On 28 April 1922 in Campbell Co VA she married Walter Terrell "Doc" Sowell, born about 1902.

The story of how Mamie died has been told many times by her children and relatives. She was sick in bed and a Polish women who lived in the same house upstairs came down to see how Mamie was doing. The lady went to the medicine cabinet to get her some medicine but when Mamie drank it, it burned her throat severely. She jumped up from the bed, ran out of the house in her night clothes, running for the drug store seeking help as she knew this was serious. Mamie died two weeks later. The "medicine" she was given turned out to be Lysol! She died from complications due to drinking it. It was said that Mamie and the Polish woman never got along and were always arguing. It has always been thought this women killed Mamie on purpose by giving her the Lysol but it could not be proven or nor did anyone ever know how the Lysol got into the medicine bottle. Mamie is buried in Cleveland, OH.

¶12 Willie Emma Mason (from ¶9) was born 23 November 1907 and died 12 Aug 1994 in Lynchburg VA. On 10 July 1030 she married Leonard Withers. After their marriage, Leonard and Willie moved to New Castle PA, where Leonard worked as a foreman in a clothing factory. They worked and lived there till he retired, then they moved back to Lynchburg VA.

¶13 Oscar Franklin Mason (from ¶9) was born 7 July 1910 at Lynchburg VA and died 15 February 1917 He died of a mastoid infection and was buried at the Carwile family cemetery in Naruna, VA.

¶14 Carl Lewis Mason (from ¶9) was born 31 January 1915. On 1 Apr 1939 he married Louise Frances Wheeler. Carl graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA, then worked in CCC Camps for two years. He served in the US Navy for two years during WWII. He was a full fashion knitter at the Lynchburg Hosiery Mill, then worked for 34 years in the Lynchburg Post Office as a Clerk before his retirement in 1983. During his retirement he wrote several books. One of these books, The Good Old Days, contains stories about his life, family and relatives.

¶15 Walter Ludwell Mason (from ¶9) was born 30 September 1917 in Lynchburg VA and died there on 9 Mar 1995. He married Helen Annette Whorley. He was a mechanic. He served two years in the U.S. Army in Asia. He was a staff sergeant.

¶16 Evelyn Carwile Mason (from ¶9) was born 1 June 1920 in Lynchburg VA. She married Peyton Oakes. Evelyn and Peyton lived for many years in Baltimore MD

¶17 Mary Virginia Mason (from ¶9) was born 9 January 1923 in Lynchburg VA, and died 13 May 1988 in Baltimore MD. She married Crawford Worley.

¶18 Robert Milton Mason (from ¶9) was born 24 August 1925 in Lynchburg VA and died 15 July 1944 at St Lo France. He married Selma Dawson. He worked at Craddock-Terry Shoe Corp., West-End Plant in Lynchburg and lived at home until he was inducted into the Army during World War II. He was assigned to the 119th Infantry - 30th Infantry Division when they landed at Normandy, France. He was killed during the invasion several miles inland. He was buried in France for a period of time and then his body was sent home and buried at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia. His parents were later buried alongside him. Robert and Selma had no children from this marriage.

¶19 Eula Mae Sowell (from ¶11) was born 19 March 1923 in Lynchburg, VA and died there 26 Jan 1997. About 1939 she married (1st) John Hammersly of South Carolina. She married (2nd) Carlton "Buck" Little.

¶20 Lora Wilmoth Sowell (from ¶11) was born 7 November 1924 in Campbell Co VA. On 5 April 1947 at Lynchburg VA she married (1st) Waddie Brown Salmon Jr. She married (2nd) Clifford Brown Hawkins.

¶21 Alexander Terrell Sowell (from ¶11) was born 19 November 1927 and died 16 May 1995. He married (1st) Shirley Mae Ware. He married (2nd) Ruth Bell Burks.
